Zita
FERVOR was asked by Calgary Foundation to design an invitation to a special presentation by Zita Cobb, self-proclaimed Innkeeper of the world-renowned Fogo Island Inn. The presentation featured the story of her asset-based-community-development (ABCD) philosophy that seeks to create sustainable economies based on a sense of place and deeply local knowledge. One of those deeply embedded cultural practices on Fogo Island is the making of quilts. FERVOR asked a skilled family member (Margaret Monks!) to quilt up Zita’s name to be used on invitations, posters, social media and slides.
At the event we presented Zita with the actual “quilt”. On a subsequent visit to stay at Fogo Island Inn (put this on your bucket list!) for Canada’s Sesquicentennial in 2017 we reconnected and learned that she has that same quilt pinned above her desk. So genuinely Fogo Islandish of her.
