The Mayor’s Committee on Civic Engagement

That was the working title of a committee struck by then newly elected Mayor Naheed Nenshi following a surge in civic involvement that saw a record number of voters turn out. We needed to shorten that. A lot. So we came up with “3 Things for Calgary” or just “3 Things”. The committee wanted a logo but we knew they needed an icon, a hook, a symbol and something that would pop out in photo ops. So the “Big Green 3” was born. It accompanied His Worship on his many appearances around the city where he would ask everyday citizens what three things they could do to make their communities better. The Big Green 3 even had its own handler and a dolly to roll beside the Mayor in the annual Stampede parade.

Launch video: Jon Thomas, Vancouver //// Fabrication: Foamworks Studio, Calgary

Our “pitch” video was shot guerrilla-style over a weekend using a home made big green 3 prototype (made of cardboard) and intercepting random people around the city at festivals and such. A custom music track was made for the final video.
