art imitating life imitating art

One day I was meandering through Stanley Park and I noticed this sort of brutalist structure outside the walls of the aquarium. Something about it gave me a strong sense of “I know this somehow”. Poking around I found that it was the old polar bear enclosure, now overgrown with all sorts of vines, weeds and bushes. Then it hit me - pretty sure this was used in the show The 100 as the scene of someone getting attacked by an irradiated mutant bear thing. But questions arise: Why is this just sitting here, being reclaimed by the forest? Is it part of Hollywood North’s location pool so not to be messed with? Is it because it’s a long term artist’s project on decay? Could it be repurposed? Wonder what students at SALA would do with this space to turn it into a useful part of the public realm. We’ll likely never know. OR, if you know what’s being done with this enclosure, let me know!
